11/22/2009

Hey,Hey!
so here are a couple of pictures, i hope that they are okay and the quality isn't to bad. One of them is with me and the sign for the golf course and the other one is the baptism that we just had on Saturday. The mans name is Dominidor Gasper and he is in the army transporting people to different places depending on where they need to go. So to answer your questions... the area is packed with people and there are lots of cars!!!! The pollution is pretty bad at times and its really noisy. The peoples homes vary in size and they are all made differently. Cement is about the only thing used for the floors, the walls, and well everything. If its not cement its some kind of a wooden thing that I'm not sure what they call it. Bamboo and then some kind of woven straw for the roof. If the house has tile that means that the people are fairly well off and there are some really really nice houses here its really amazing to see a little tiny house next to a huge House that has its own compound. The People do a lot of different jobs here for income. Some just drive people around all day, some dentists, doctors, teachers, babysitters. Its about the same as in America but the pay scale is really different. If a person is making about 5000 pesos a week that's really good. Some of the people are nice to the Americans and others are not so nice. It's funny most people are scared of us so we don't really have any problems. Well except I got shot in the head by some kids air soft gun while he was driving by (it didn't really hurt but we felt like scaring the taƩ out of him)!! So we ran after the tricycle and when we got to the house that it was parked at my companion talked to the parents and then the kid came out and he about fainted when he saw that it was us! Oh it was really funny and then the parent yelled at the kid and he got busted! My companion was laughing so hard and I thought it was pretty funny as well. So back to the questions you have asked... no one asks about our name tags unless we are having a conversation with them. The girls all think that we are very handsome (they are correct) and sometimes they take it a little to far and say some really bad stuff to us. (would make you blush Mom). Then there are other times the older ladies tell us "maganda ang mga mata mo" which means your eyes are beautiful.... awkward!!!! We just smile and leave haha.
So it finally has been raining and cooled down a little bit so that's great news. Lets see.... this week has gone by really fast its crazy I have been in Ilagan for 2 months tomorrow and 4 months yesterday since my mission began. Wow time has been flying and I really am glad I am here.
I got and email from Blair and he said the Ty has been out for 6 months - that seems crazy!
So our baptism went great and all was well. We have 2 more for the 12th of December and we should have 2 more for about the same time. We will give them a baptismal date this week and I am very happy for them all.
So whats everyone been up to this week? Hows school and work going?
Oh one thing that would be helpful that you could send me would be some really good face wash. The stuff here is terrible, so that would be really nice to have.
Thanks for everything! I love you all!

Hellooooo,
well Ilagan is great! The week has gone by pretty quick and it seems like time is flying by. Just think next week I will have been out for 4 months which is really crazy!!
It's really hot here and this week it hasn't rained at all. I was hoping for a huge downpour so it would cool off for a little bit but nope - nothing has happened haha.

We won't get anymore missionaries in out apartment because the president hates it when more than one set of missionaries are in the same apartment. So Elder Hanks and I will be the only ones here for the rest of the time the church rents this apartment.
You keep asking me to send you some pictures with my emails. I can send some pictures over the Internet but it takes a really really long time and there is a chance that my card will get a virus so that's why I haven't done it. Sorry about that!
This week Elder H. got a little sick and hasn't felt so good so we have only been going to our set appointments and not anything else so he can rest. We have a baptism on the 21st for Bro Gasper who is in the army and I am very excited for him. I have to say that I am really excited for all the people who we are teaching. Its really cool to teach our message that's so important to someone who has never heard it before. We taught the word of wisdom to a lot of our investigators this week and I hope that the ones who have a problem with coffee and tea will be able to keep their commitments and do all they can to accept our challenge and be baptized.
Elder Hanks is still the district leader and he wont get released but will probably get move up to a zone leader but not for a while.
Well I couldn't help myself but I finish off the bag of m&ms but the good news is that I did find a bag of the nibs that you sent and I was very happy! Thank you for the Sweet treats!!! I have a wicked tan line on my arm and neck from my proselyting clothes it to is pretty sweet.
The pictures you sent made me laugh! Peyton is a goober as she loses her teeth and yes its a very good thing that I'm here and not there so I wouldn't make fun of her because she would cry a lot haha just kidding.
So they painted our apartment this week which was really not convenient at all because we have to move so much stuff around so they could do it. It didn't even need to be done but they thought it needed it, so today we have just been cleaning their mess up and getting our house back to normal. Great times!!!
That is great that Peyton is doing great in school and that she is learning a lot about reading and stuff. Keep doing good Peyton. How did Morgan do on her tests for school? How was Paige's finals and stuff? Whats the weather like there is there snow?? Send some pictures of the snow with my Christmas package so the people can see what it looks like.
Well i would email Mckensie some Tagalog but i have no idea how to spell half of the words that i can say. So maybe in the later months I will and we can see how that works out. I have to say that Dads truck looks so funny to me. What is Snapon thinking? I got an email from Elder Hemenway and it was great to hear from him! I emailed Art a while ago but I haven't heard from him so if someone is going by Quiksilver one of these days, drop in and tell him to check is "supatoad" email. Thanks for all your prayers and support! I love you all so much and miss you all! Tell everyone I say hello!

11/8/2009

Hey hey hey!
well this week didn't go by as fast as last week but it did go by ha ha. Well to answer your big question I didn't get transferred!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I was very excited about that!!! We still have one baptism lined up for the 22 and the other one we had fell through because the girl needed to get married before we can baptize her (because she and her boyfriend are going to have a baby). So we have to wait until next year sometime for them to get married. I did get you package and Grandma Anderson's letter and a letter from Grandma Mulliner too, its good to get actual mail and the package was perfect! mmmmmmm! It had all the food I miss and will miss for two years haha. I ate the mac and cheese, the nibs, and most of the nuts I just couldn't help myself. The M&M's, I am trying to have some self control on because those are really really expensive here and if I eat them all in one day I don't know what I'm going to do for the rest of my life (or mission).
So the language I am learning little by little everyday, its really frustrating and I feel like punching Tagalog in the face sometimes but I cant because its not tangible so I cant..... It will just takes time (that is what I hear all the time). Some good news is that the zone leaders moved out of our house! We cleaned it a little this morning but had to stop because some random people came in and started painting... it was weird. Its so nice with just me and Elder Hanks in our house. Its got 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms so its pretty big, plus its the 2nd nicest place in the mission and its even better when its clean haha. The bugs don't really come in very much we have a few lizards and a ton of dang ants but there is nothing we can really do about that. We found a store that has American imports in it and they had this stuff called goober. Its jam and peanut butter mixed in strips and of course I bought some. Then they had real butter so we got some for the mac and cheese and they had salsa!!! But no chips, so we didn't get any!(dang) We did get some really good pork and had spaghetti yesterday and lots of coke! I love coke!!
We had to fire the clothes washing lady because I guess we just cant have one, but we have a laundry mat here so we take our clothes (except our garments) and the people there put our clothes in the washer and dryer. The better news is that its cheaper for the washer to do it then the lady so that's good. Oh yeah- I forgot to mention this last week but I guess they don't have boxes or those bubble packages here. So before I can send a CD home with my pictures on it I need a bubble thing. I am sorry its going to be a while before you guys get some pictures, sorry! I heard that Peyton is growing up pretty fast, will you email me some pictures of all of you guys so I can see how you've grown haha.
Well I gotta get going I love you all so much! I miss you tons!

Family!

well this week has gone by so so fast its weird that's its November already and its snowing! My companions family emailed some pics of the snow and I'm going to miss that sight (but not really). So we had our baptism on Saturday it went great. There wasn't a lot of people there but that's normal (I guess) here in the Philippines. We have transfers coming up and I hope I don't get transferred!!!! I really like this area and our ward is pretty sweet. Last week we had almost 200 people in our ward show up! It was nuts and everyone came up to us and was thanking us for our great work and for being really diligent. We really didn't do all of it - there are so many inactive members here its really bad. So we went and visited a few of the families and invited them to come to church but we didn't see any of them. Oh well, we will just have to keep trying to get them to come back I guess. Well lets see, the week went by so fast i cant think of anything to say haha. Yesterday went buy really slow and they don't celebrate Halloween at all here (so no trick or treating). November 1st is called all Saints Day and then today is called the Day of the Dead or something like that. All saints day is pretty much a big day for people to go and pay their respects to the dead family members or something of the sorts. We didn't get to teach anyone after church got out, really no one wanted us to come around. Not even the members because of this holiday so we walked around for a while trying to get in a lesson and we couldn't. Then my companions stomach started hurting so we went home about 7 and played monopoly for a while then went to bed. So here is some good news- the zone leaders are moving out this next week and we will be able to have the apartment to ourselves. It will be able to be clean for longer then a day! They are really messy and lazy so we clean up after them a lot (kinda exactly like a mom) haha. We made some no bake cookies this week and boy were they good!!!! They don't taste like the ones back at home because everything is different here but they were still good!!! So it sounds like you guys had a great Halloween with Dad scaring people and Peyton having fun on the Halloween train and trick or treating. This year has gone by so fast and so has my mission! Man its weird! I hope I get your package on Thursday, that would be one good thing about getting transferred. Plus there are three McDonald's here so if I get transferred to a city with one of those bad boys I would be in heaven haha! I got elder hemenways email last week, it seems like he is doing great! I need to get his email somehow could you help me out on that one? That would be great! Well its been great to read all of your emails and see what your all up to. I gotta get going and I miss you all and love you all!
Love Elder Mulliner (Elder Mullyonier) haha that's how the Filipinos say my name its kinda like millionaire

10/25/2009

Dear family!

So this week was a lot more calm than last week, no one almost got shot, I was cured from stomach problems, our teaching was great and we cleaned the apartment really really well! The apartment is all white tile so its really hard to keep clean and I have to say that I am glad that I have a mom who loves me and made me clean a few times because our house is nasty!! I cleaned the bathroom and stuff so now the once brown tiles are now white like they should be. Me and my companion are really the only ones who clean, the other companionship is moving out on Saturday so we will have the whole place to ourselves for a little while and that will be nice. Our transfers are coming up so I may not have to much longer here, which is really sad because this area is really nice(even with a nasty apartment). Plus we are going to be having a few more baptisms coming up so I hope that I don’t get transferred.
One of the elders support money got stolen last week at their baptism. I gave him 1,000 pisos that I had from my support so he could have food for a little while longer. So if I run out of support I will have to draw from my personal account, just a heads up. Lets see we have a baptism on the 31st of October - yep Halloween! It should be a good baptism and I hope it goes well. We received a referral last week from one of the members in the ward. So on Sunday we went on splits along with one of the members that likes to come work with us and went over to her house. We taught her a little bit about the gospel and we left her a little pamphlet to read. She said that she had to ask her husband if it was okay that we teach her and she did ask him and now we are able to teach her. She seems really receptive to our emails and she gives good answers to the questions that we ask her. We even got her to come to church and I was shocked when she actually showed up, but very happy to see her! We will be going over to her house on Tuesday so we’ll see how she liked attending church. We also gave another one of our investigators a baptismal date on Sunday as well but it isn’t until late November because he can only be taught on Sundays after church. He is in the army and that keeps him busy during the week. He has come to church every week for like 2 months which is really good! It's raining outside right now… big surprise haha -its always raining! Yes I do have an umbrella so I stay somewhat dry. I found out that I'm staying in the same room that Blair Frei (Sherees nieces boyfriend) did. His name is written on a couple of things in our room. It's cool to know someone that I know was here before I was so tell Sheree that and she can tell him that(got that). So lets see, I'm starting to eat a lot of the fruit here, its so much better then in America and most of it doesn’t make my throat swell up, so that’s good news. There are these little bananas that are really good but the only problem is that I can eat like a billion of them in one day. The food here is really good and everything is just chicken and rice. Whenever we are hungry my companion always says; “well, I'm sick of chicken, what can we eat?”. Its pretty funny, because well…. there is only chicken and fish but we don’t buy any because it will stink up the house. One day we found pancakes in a store and well to be honest I'm obsessed with pancakes right now!!! So there is a little bit of useless info about me but something that I thought I would share with all of you. haha! I cant believe that 3 months have already gone buy its very crazy and its going by so fast! Oh yeah I heard that Kenny and Jerah are engaged! So congrats to them!!!! That’s awesome! Well I cant think of anything else to say so I'm off to the palangke to buy some food once again.
I love you all so much! Love elder Mulliner
